Massive Liquidation

I'm not one to use my blog to pimp my cards, but,
umm, it's my blog.
I am selling off virtually all my W502s - the main reason I started this blog in the first place. Most grade 5 and above, all are slabbed by SGC. For now, I am hanging onto most of the key HOFers, but there are a handful in the group. The cards include some tough backs, mostly "One Baggers" with and without the "Hold what you got" phrase, printed in both directions. There is one "THREE BAGGER" back.
More importantly, I am selling off a total of 15 high-grade 1938 Goudeys, including some HOFers. These are cards from my "private stock" - right from my main collection - and include cards graded PSA 6, 7, and 8.
Check it out, yo. EBAY STORE
Some of this stuff goes on sale on Tuesday the 30th in a 7-day auction, and the rest goes on sale Thursday the 1st in a 10-day auction. I've staggered the '38 Goudeys into two days so that all you big spenders can catch your breath. Shipping is free on everything I sell these days, but insurance is extra.
Good luck bidding, if you wanna.

I don't care what you say, these are cool

These are 2007 Upper Deck Goudeys.
Never have I so enthusiastically collected something modern; at least not since the 1953 Topps Archives set ten years ago or whatever it was.
These cards are a pretty wild cross between '33 Goudeys and Diamond Stars; the "base" set consists of 200 cards (I think) with either red or green backs. You can build a complete set of each. Then, there are a bunch of high number "short prints", and a run of cards that look just like 1938 Goudeys.
The cards are the size of regular Goudeys, and they're printed on regular cardboard. There are flaws in the stock, and centering problems, and dings on the corners, and all sorts of other manufacturing imperfections, just like the good old days.
The cards themselves are mostly current players, but up in the high numbers there are guys like Reggie Jackson and Bill Mazeroski.
Buy a box for $100 or so, and you can play the modern card lottery with lots of autographed cards, game-used memorabilia cards, and even repackaged cards from the REAL 1933 Goudey set (or you could just shell out $10 and buy a real 1933 Goudey common in roughly the same condition as the repackaged ones). I got a David Ortiz jersey card; I'm trying to think of the best way to destroy that.
Anyway, pick up a box of these babies; I don't think you'll be disappointed if you're a vintage collector.
Adding some new pages

'Sup?
Decided to add some new pages to the site over the next few weeks. I'll be creating a page for Henry Johnson Confectioners cards, as well as a Want List page. I may also create a page for my National Chicle R311s, as well as some other odd stuff I've managed to sock away.
Huggins & Scott closes this week; I like those guys, and think they're doing a great job growing their auction. I've got my eye on a few items, though, so nobody bid.

50-card homework

Wow.
A little earlier this evening, I posted the Eddie Collins cabinet in the October Pickup thread on Net54.
Dan from 54 suggested that the card may have been part of Collins' personal collection, some of which has been sold on 54 recently.
Sure enough, a friend pointed this out to me:
Hunt link
Evidently the cabinet was originally part of a larger lot of items from one of Collins' scrapbooks. It was sold, and then somehow made it back to Hunt once again. Perhaps the original owner wasn't happy with the trimming. Given that it was owned by Eddie Collins himself, I'm perfectly okay with it. What a cool story.

New stuff abounds

Picked up a handful of new items recently, from the
Hunt and Sloate auctions, as well as a private
transaction.
First, the interesting twist to the Nifty Fifty. If you read backwards a few posts, you'll see that I purchased a card and waived my NY Journal American Monte Irvin. Then, a friend convinced me that a HOFer who had distinguished himself in the major leagues AND tthe Negro Leagues, on a tough card that was the highest graded example, was a good card to keep. Plus, he's from Jersey. So I kept him.
Then a new example of the same card was graded by SGC for a friend of mine, and it came back a 7. So my copy was no longer the highest graded copy.
So I bought the 7 from my friend, and waived the 6.
Hello, Monte. Goodbye, Monte.
My second pickup was the Eddie Collins cabinet card you see on the home page. What a gorgeous photo. The mount has clearly been trimmed away on all four sides, but it's still a knockout.
I fear I am addicted to cabinets.
Here's a nice, crisp, large scan.
Unfortunately, unlike with Monte, I don't have another 1906 Eddie Collins cabinet that I can release. So I had to make another tough decision here.
The decision was rendered much easier by my subsequent purchase in Barry Sloate's auction. I bought a lot of 47 T206s. Add that to the T206s I already owned, and suddenly, I have more than 20% of the set. I am of the belief that if you have 20% of a set, you are "officially" collecting it - particularly an iconic set like T206.
So I cheated. I added the Eddie Collins cab, removed a T206 Vic Willis from the Nifty Fifty, and put it in my T206 box.
